December 2023 Be sure to check out the new pictures on the Photos page! We began November with our area bowling tournament at Bandera Bowl in San Antonio. Our athletes love bowling, and all did well! They always have so much fun with this sport and love to go to competition! We ended November with the beginning of our next sport - basketball! This is another very popular sport. Basketball will go until the BIG GAME on February 8 at Champion High School. Our growing sport of triathlon finished up with an area meet on December 2. We now have 22 athletes compete either as individuals or on relay teams in swimming, biking (stationary bike), and running on an indoor track. We had one relay and 2 individuals from Rockwall come join in the fun. ... (Read More)

November 2023 Be sure to check out the new pictures on the Photos page! October has been a whirlwind month with SO much going on in the life of Boerne Blaze Special Olympics!!! Bowling practices continue with the area tournament on November 11! Triathlon practices have begun. We have 28 athletes training for this sport. It includes swimming, riding a stationary bicycle, and running/walking on a treadmill or track. The area meet is on December 2nd! Also, on December 2nd—The Boerne Blaze Special Olympics Team has been asked to be the grand marshals of the famous Weihnachts Christmas Parade!! October 2023 What a wonderful and fun September we had! And more to come the month of October! Under the direction of head coach Sherri Cox, we took 20 athletes and 2 unified partners to our area swim meet on Saturday, Sept. 16, earning a lot of gold, silver, and bronze hardware!! 9 of our swimmers continue to practice and will travel to Texas A&M in College Station, Oct. 19-21 to compete in the Special Olympics Texas Fall Classic State Swim meet! After 2 months of Top Golf practices, we ended that season on Sept. 27 with a unified tournament – several Boerne Police Officers joined us as partners! September 2023 I feel like we are in a whirlwind of Boerne Blaze activities!!! I hope most of our athletes are participating in at least one of our offerings at this time. Swimming is soon to culminate in our area swim meet on Sept. 16. After that, several of our swimmers will continue practice to compete at the state level at Texas A&M in the SOTX Fall Classic Oct. 20-21. Swimmers have worked hard since the beginning of July. Bowling has just begun on Mondays. We are growing in number in the Boerne Blaze so both swimming and bowling venues are at capacity. This year, the bowlers have been divided into 2 groups and each group has an hour on Monday to bowl. They are having fun! ... (Read More) Our Jericho ministry has taken a break over the summer. However, at the participants’ suggestion, we met in July to do a service project so we could give back. So many help our group of individuals with special needs.
Under the leadership of athlete Mark G., we packed a total of 70 boxes for Operation Christmas Child! This is a mission of Samaritan’s Purse organization. The boxes are packed with new donated items of hygiene, school supplies, clothing, accessories, toys and something of a Wow! Item. The boxes are sent to children overseas who have little in the way of material things. Every box also includes a note from the person packing them, sharing God’s love and giving them hope. ... August 2023 Wow, have we raced to a great start for our 2023-2024 Boerne Blaze sports year! Busier than ever and so many opportunities for our athletes! Swimming is in full swing! Our lane swimmers practice twice per week and the developmental swimmers are on Tuesdays. Unfortunately, we have just about run out of room in the pool we use. Bowling begins on Mondays on August 7. Even though we will be providing 2 separate sessions for the bowlers, we will be crowded there as well! Many have expressed interest in joining in for the bowling season!! ... July 2023 We are about to embark on a new sports year for Boerne Blaze Special Olympics and we are SO excited! Swimming starts this month, bowling begins in August. We have a disc golf introductory clinic with a guest leader (Jeff Walker’s uncle!). Disc golf is a new official sport with Special Olympics and we are happy to add this to our Boerne Blaze list of sports! Your coaches are busy reviewing their sport in 2022-2023, and preparing for this new year of 2023-2024! We welcome a few new athletes already, with our numbers constantly growing! Also new….Boerne Blaze is now a member of the Boerne Chamber of Commerce in the non-profit area. We look forward to partnering with them and finding out all the wonderful opportunities they offer. June 2023 After several years off due to the pandemic, we finished up our 2022-2023 Boerne Blaze sports year with a bang! About 170 athletes, families, coaches, and volunteers attended our first end of year sports banquet since 2019!! May 2023 April brought an end to our sports for 2022-2023. On April 15, BBSO participated in the skills competition in tennis. It was a great arena for them to show the skills they have worked on and to watch and aspire to play a competitive game. All athletes did a great job and had a fun time! April 2023 Oh, my, the Boerne Blaze has blazed through the month of March and into the month of April! We started with cycling practices and tennis practices each twice per week. We were disappointed with the cancelation of the area cycling competition on March 18 due to severe weather. But….that meant we continued our season another two weeks. The re-scheduled race was Saturday, April 1. We took 12 athletes and 1 unified partner. WOW! It was a great day…wonderful venue, well-run event, good weather, and all athletes did their best and represented Boerne Blaze very well! So well, in fact, that we may continue on the cycling state games in late May! ... |
