Jenny's Jots November 2023 Be sure to check out the new pictures on the Photos page! October has been a whirlwind month with SO much going on in the life of Boerne Blaze Special Olympics!!! Bowling practices continue with the area tournament on November 11! Triathlon practices have begun. We have 28 athletes training for this sport. It includes swimming, riding a stationary bicycle, and running/walking on a treadmill or track. The area meet is on December 2nd! Also, on December 2nd—The Boerne Blaze Special Olympics Team has been asked to be the grand marshals of the famous Weihnachts Christmas Parade!! In the evening, the floats travel down scenic Boerne Main Street to a packed crowd. What an honor! ... (Read More) Our state swimmers swam on October 20 and 21 at the Texas A&M natatorium and did a wonderful job! The swimmers were: Alexa, Christopher, Adam, Elijah, Kylah, Rebecca, Jeff, Carley, and Annsley. They were under the direction of head coach Sherri Cox. They came home sporting many gold and silver medals—and were very tired! Congratulations State Swimmers!
At the Fall Classic State Meet, one of our athletes received the very special award of MOST INSPIRATIONAL ATHLETE — Rebecca Stone. She is very deserving of this recognition, as she is always ready to help all other athletes when she sees a need, and to cheer everyone on!!! Congratulations Rebecca! During the months of August, September, and October, free pickleball courts were offered for Special Olympics athletes across the country at Chicken N Pickle restaurants and courts. The open time was during school hours so not many athletes were free to participate but we did have 3 who took advantage: Miriam, Jeff, and Adam. Along with several beginner coaches, we were able to learn a lot from experienced players and coaches, and we had a great time, ending with a small tournament on Oct. 25th. We hope to now begin a pickleball team in Boerne with anyone interested from our full BBSO family. Lastly, the local YMSL (Young Men’s Service League) group hosted a BETTER TOGETHER DUATHLON 2.0 on Saturday, Oct. 28 at Boerne ISD stadium. The high school boys partnered up with our athletes for weekly October practices and then ran/walked and biked as costumed teams this Saturday. This was all done for community awareness of those with disabilities and to drive home the truth that we are all BETTER TOGETHER! It was great fun, and we thank YMSL for this Ultimate Gift 2023! What a fun time had by all! So yes, October was a fun and busy month! For November, we will have the bowling tournament, continue triathlon practices, begin a new cheer & dance class, and start our popular basketball season! As always, keep loving, laughing and moving!
