On May 19, Boerne Blaze held its annual sports banquet with upwards of 200 people in attendance! As reinstated Head of Delegation, I was able to lead this celebration once again. How good it felt! The past sports year of 2025 – 2026 was praised and Mark Olson was again thanked for his leadership in my absence. Several highlights were mentioned:
· We took a 4-person team to the State Swim competition: Isabella, Jeff, Maripaz and Rebecca, with Coach Linda.
· We were named the Boerne Chamber of Commerce 2025 Non-Profit of the Year
· We participated in the 3rd annual Boerne Police vs Boerne Fire Dept Unified kickball game.
· We added disc golf to our sports.
For the upcoming sports year of 2026 – 2027, we plan to partner with several different organizations to implement a few new events and opportunities: TBI Warriors and Kendall County Sheriff Dept to name a few.
We also welcomed 9 new athletes to our Boerne Blaze family during the past year.
A new volunteer scholarship was created in my son’s name: Boerne Blaze Philip Cashion Volunteer Scholarship. Philip had been a volunteer and then a coach with the Boerne Blaze during his high school and college years. He passed away in Oct. 2025 and will be continuously remembered and honored through the presentation of this scholarship to a deserving high school senior. This year the recipient was Allie, who served selflessly with the Boerne Blaze for 3 years (see attachment)

Elizabeth Hernandez Spirit Awards – Leila & Nayeli
Athletes of the Year — Ivan & Asher
Following those special awards, all athletes were presented with a metal hanger for their many Special Olympics medals – custom made by JDH Iron Works! We now look forward to a new year of sports with Boerne Blaze Special Olympics!!!
