VOLUNTEERS
We really welcome those who just have a heart for our special population to volunteer. Everyone freely gives of their time with generous and compassionate hearts. Our athletes LOVE playing and practicing with the young volunteers we have. They identify with them on a different level. And the importance of high school volunteers is huge in so many ways.
In particular, they help our athletes feel accepted and loved, but the volunteers are role models for our athletes and can often help our special people grow and improve in ways that we, as parents, cannot.
If you have a desire to volunteer, there are many opportunities we’d like to share with you. Special Olympics official volunteers can be:
Class A which includes coaches, assistant coaches, and others who work closely with our athletes. This is the highest level of certification.
Class B which is also called “day of” volunteers who help on the field during competitions.
Boerne Blaze also welcomes “walk on” volunteers from groups such as YMSL and National Charity League who show up as they are available and support our athletes under the supervision of our coaches and assistant coaches.
Contact Jenny Cashion, Head of Delegation, to learn more about how you (and your group) can be a Boerne Blaze Special Olympics volunteer.
Special Olympics Volunteer Oath:
“I promise to give of the time in my life so that Special Olympic athletes can have the time of their lives.
I promise to support Special Olympics not just as an expression of charity, but as a form of respect for my fellow human beings.
I promise to spread the word of volunteerism because, in giving, I receive so much more in return.”
