Indoor triathlon is so fun! It is three sports in one—swimming, biking, and running/walking. The swim is in a 25-meter pool, the bike is a stationary bike, and the run/walk is either on a treadmill or an indoor track. Distances vary in increments of 50-meter swim—2-mile bike ride—1/2 mile run/walk. Athletes can do the whole thing as an individual or pieces of it as a relay team. Practices begin in mid-October with the area competition usually the first Saturday in December. We practice 2 days per week at the Omega Center with access to the indoor pool and several stationary bikes indoors. The walk/ run training takes place on the beautiful Omega Center grounds. Everyone goes at their own pace and just works on getting better and/or faster. This sport has really grown in numbers among Boerne Blaze. Athletes are divided into 3 groups and practice all 3 sports in a different order each day. Many coaches and volunteers increase the fun by staying with the athletes as they work out. Triathlon is a great sport for improving fitness and endurance, learning how to pace, and to transition between one sport to another. Athletes of any ability level can fit into a plan as a relay member or an individual. Athletes can also just come for practices for fitness purposes if they are not up to a competition. All are welcome!
