ATHLETE SPOTLIGHT

Adam

This month of June, I am going to take this opportunity to highlight the young man behind my inspiration to pour my heart into the Boerne Blaze—my son, Adam!

Adam will be 30 years this month. This brings back so many memories—good ones, challenging ones, sad ones, but always a blessing in the end.

Adam joined his 2 older brothers, Andrew, and Philip on June 11, 1994. Adam lives with his mom (me) and dad (Paul) here in Boerne.  He is also an uncle to Jack and Emilia (mother Holly)!

Right now, what is consuming Adam’s mind and heart is his upcoming trip to Ft. Collins, CO to stay with his brother Philip and Philip’s fiancé Beth—for a month! The clothes he has chosen to wear on the airplane have been carefully set out for weeks already! Thank you, Philip, and Beth! (side note: Philip-or Phil-is the one who runs this website!)

From Jenny (head of delegation) and Mom (most important!):

Adam has a gusto for life that never quits. He may be slow and methodical at everything he does and  his speech is not well understood by most, but he communicates in other ways. He LOVES everyone! His mission when he enters a place (including sports practices) is first to hug everyone hello…then he will practice.  Adam helps me to remember what life is about…everyone has gifts to share, take a breath and slow down, and count your blessings. We all have many!!!
He participates in most every sport we offer—but Swimming is his main sport—competing at the state level and taking lessons all year long. He may not be very fast, but he can swim forever!! He is definitely a distance swimmer and therefore, will be doing the upcoming pilot aquathon in July.

Other activities that keep him busy are:
Serving Meals on Wheels (since 2016) with Coach JP.  (bless JP!).
Working at Salty & Sweet a few hours per week.
Attending Helping Hands Dayhab one day per week.
Participating in the Jericho Ministry and serving as an usher and acolyte at St. Mark.  He is also an ordained deacon at St. Mark and sends homemade cards to members who are ill or need comfort and prayers.

Adam also loves to tie fleece blankets and pillows. And he is great at making soups and cookie mixes for Christmas gifts.
