April 2023 Oh, my, the Boerne Blaze has blazed through the month of March and into the month of April! We started with cycling practices and tennis practices each twice per week. We were disappointed with the cancelation of the area cycling competition on March 18 due to severe weather. But….that meant we continued our season another two weeks. The re-scheduled race was Saturday, April 1. We took 12 athletes and 1 unified partner. WOW! It was a great day…wonderful venue, well-run event, good weather, and all athletes did their best and represented Boerne Blaze very well! So well, in fact, that we may continue on the cycling state games in late May! ... Way to Go, Boerne Blaze!

MARCH 2023 What a full and fun February!! We started with our BIG BASKETBALL GAME on Feb. 9 at Champion High School. After coming into the gym through a long tunnel of CHS athletes and students and being greeted by the Boerne Greyhound, our athletes were introduced to clapping and loud cheers! Everyone played with big smiles. Cheerleaders and dance teams performed. One of our parents of a new BBSO athlete came up to me and (paraphrased) “This is amazing! The pervious team our son was on was just about the game. This is so much more!” SONA (Special Olympics North America) participates in a national unified sports bowling tournament. It is held in Reno, Nevada this year. Boerne Blaze is taking one 4-woman team to this event. This is the first time we have ever participated in a national competition! Our team consists of BBSO athletes Carley Fisk and Kristal Leos. Unified partners are Hayley Fisk and JP Posey. All is under the direction of BBSO head coach Angela Fisk. The tournament begins on Tuesday, Feb. 28 with a clinic for the athletes followed by competition with doubles and with the 4-person team. Congratulations team and Go Boerne Blaze Go!
